Local Publisher/Author Wins Award, Gives Awards

Arizona Authors Literary Association recently named Moonlight Mesa Associates, Inc. publisher, Becky Coffield, a 2009 Arizona Authors Winner in the Short Story Division with her entry, "The Taming of Jump-Off Joe." This is the third award that the author/publisher has received from the Arizona Authors Literary Association.

Coffield recently concluded Moonlight Mesa Associates' First Annual Cowboy Up Short Story Contest and has awarded a third place cash prize of $75.00 to Robert Walton of King City, CA. for his entry entitled "Indio". Second place winner for $150.00 was J.R. Kilgore of Austin, Texas, for "Ned", and Jonathan Adams of Wahpeton, North Dakota, won $250.00 for his entry entitled "The Wild Ones".

Runners up in the contest were Drew Davis of Georgia with "Maniac"; Loree Westron of Portsmouth, England, with "The Difference Between Cowboys and Clowns"; Simon Lake of Penzance, Cornwall, United Kingdom with "Hostage to Fortune"; Kathleen Ewing of Prescott Valley, Arizona for "Living Legend."

Moonlight Mesa's first Western publication, "Saving Tom Black", by Jere D. James, set in Wickenburg and Prescott in 1888, has recently been entered in the Western Writers of America Spur Award Contest. The company is releasing two new Westerns, hopefully in time for Gold Rush Days: "Apache," by Jere D. James, is the second title in the Jake Silver Adventure Series which has received a sterling pre-publication review from Midwest Book Review, and "The Littlest Wrangler," by J.R. Sanders, which has been endorsed by Cowboy Poet/Musician Don Edwards, Midwest Book Review, and Spur Award Winner Nancy Plain.

Karen Lamontagne at Riata Saddles and Western Store in Wickenburg is now carrying several of Moonlight Mesa's Western publications.
