Apache - A Jake Silver Adventure - Book II

I was privileged to read Book One of the Jake Silver Series, Saving Tom Black. I fell in love with the characters and the story, so I was honored to be asked to review Book Two of this series, Apache.

In this read we find our beloved couple, Marshal Jake Silver and his love, Betsy. Almost settled now after many trials, Jake struggles with his strong desire to marry Betsy, yet battles the call of the open range. Right in the middle of this turmoil he receives a letter that his sister needs him.  What has happened to her is a mystery and one Jake must resolve. He sets off on a search for her and finds more than he bargained for, leaving Betsy with a secret in her heart that she has not shared yet with Jake.

Sophy, in the meantime, fell into the hands of a cruel man who was murdered by the Apaches, but her life was spared. Nantan Lupan, or Greywolf, is obsessed by this white woman, and after much turmoil decides he must make her his own.  However, that would be crossing the line and that would be deadly for everyone involved. As he made himself known to Sophy she was also drawn to him and a bond began, a bond that could never be. Will this love be ended before it even begins, or will Greywolf pursue his true love? Finally,  Jake returns home to chaos, and finds out Betsy is in extreme peril. Now the race if on to save her from sure death. Time is running out for all of them, and the stakes are higher than anyone ever imagined.

I absolutely loved this read.  It takes the characters from Book One and throws them into situations that  will be life changing: The forbidden love between Apache and white woman, an unwed woman with a secret, an abduction that will surely end in death, but for whom? Layers and layers of events overshadow one another until you are holding your breath for the final conclusion.  Excellent....

Jere D. James is an author who has a talent I have not seen in a very long time. He pens the words in his stories in such a way that the characters actually web their way into your heart and mind. Each one is a piece of the other, a dot connecting and connecting until they form the perfect picture and bring forth a story so captivating that you are unable to put it down, with characters so alive that they almost become a part of your world. His stories touch on subjects that have been tasted in life. Pain and victories cascade throughout the pages of his writings and spray the reader in amazement.

Truly this is a series you do not want to miss, written by an author that is sure to make his mark.  Each book has the ability to stand alone, yet together they make a wonderful symphony. Exceptional. Highly recommended.
